just like that.

A whole week has gone by since Tom's Grandpa passed away . . . and now it's back to "normal." Tom's back to work, the family gatherings are over (for awhile) and life goes on. It has been a week full of remembering, laughing, and just being TOGETHER.

The funeral yesterday was lovely. The six grandsons were pallbearers and Tom said he thought his Grandpa was playing tricks on him, because he almost fell into the grave TWICE. :) I so wish I had a picture of them all lined up behind the casket.

Aren't they handsome?
Missing Kennedy and Sean in this picture . . .
Tom's neighbor lady growing up . . .
A few of us went back to the cemetery after the church service.
It was quiet on the car ride home last night . . . I think it was setting in for us that everything was all over. Grace started quietly asking questions about Grandpa Hoagie. "He's in heaven, Dad?" "Yep, Grace. Grandpa Hoagie's in heaven." "But he's in the dirt too?" "Yep, Grandpa Hoagie's body was old and tired and when he died, God took him up to heaven to live with him, but his body stayed here so we could say goodbye." "He's living with the angels now?" "Yep Grace, Grandpa Hoagie's living with the angels." "I will go live with the angels too Dad? You and me and Mom and Vince will go live with the angels?"

The tears were streaming down my face listening to this sweet conversation between them.

Tom's Grandpa was one of 15 . . . 15! He is the third one to pass away.

We had a pizza party at Tom's Grandma's last night as one final gathering before the out of town relatives headed back home.

The cousins played like it was going out of style.
"His EARS!" said Sean.

Vince LOVED Aunt Wanda!

This was taken 4 days after Vince was born. 4 generations of DeHoog men . . . Tom is the only grandson on the DeHoog side to carry on the name . . . now it's up to Vince.
I am so grateful for the relationships that Tom and I have with our grandparents and how special it is for Grace and Vince to have that with their GREAT grandparents. Another reminder why it is so important that we visit them OFTEN. They NEED it. They LOVE it. They DESERVE it.

We LOVE you Grandpa Hoagie!
